Titre : Evidence for the orbitofrontal cortex in forming models rather than applying models during value-based decision making

Conférencier : Matthew Pierce Gardner

Résumé :
The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) is thought to be an essential region for executing value-based decisions. We have found that inactivation of the OFC in rats does not disrupt previously established, yet goal-directed, economic decisions, but it is important for rational choice when decisions are experienced for the first time. Based on this evidence, we have suggested that the OFC is critical for building, or restructuring, abstract cognitive maps of the relationships between disparate outcomes as the outcome space is explored during novel choice.
