Éric Lacourse is a full professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Montreal.
The overall objective of his research is to better understand the social aspects associated with the development of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral regulation from childhood to adulthood. More recently, he has been interested in integrating machine learning approaches into latent variable models for complex data (hierarchical, longitudinal, or sequential). He adopts a multidisciplinary perspective that integrates theoretical concepts from developmental psychology and education, psychiatry, criminology, and sociology. He has worked on topics from a biopsychosocial perspective, including aggressive behaviors, violence and delinquency, depression and suicidal risk, as well as school dropout. Additionally, he has been interested in the effects of prevention/intervention programs from the second and third waves of cognitive-behavioral approaches, including mindfulness meditation.
