Matthieu Vanni is an Assistant Professor at the School of Optometry at the University of Montreal and the director of the neurophotonics laboratory.
He focuses on the functional organization of the brain, with a particular emphasis on cortical mapping in the visual and motor cortex and functional connectivity. Using advanced techniques such as calcium imaging and optogenetics in animal models, he is also pursuing the development of new therapeutic approaches for visual impairments, including through the creation of a next-generation visual neuroprosthesis induced by optogenetic brain stimulation. His interests also extend to studying cortical blindness, examining brain functional reorganization and visual perception following strokes.
