Frédéric Ouellet is an Associate Professor at the School of Criminology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Université de Montréal.

His research focuses on two main areas.

Primary area: his research focuses on criminal careers, aiming to situate the criminal within their trajectory to better understand what dictates criminal activities. He is interested in the parameters (frequency of crimes committed, criminal performance, severity, diversification/specialization, co-offending habits, desistance, etc.) that characterize these trajectories. His work is conducted with the perspective that crime is an event that occurs within a sequence and context. They examine both static factors (individual characteristics) and dynamic factors (life circumstances) that influence criminal trajectories.

Secondary area: using the framework developed to study criminal careers, Frédéric Ouellet seeks to understand other types of trajectories, such as those of pathological gamblers or victims of domestic violence.
